Proximate and ultimate analyses are important for determining the type and quality of coal and cokes. In the proximate analysis, we look at the moisture content, ash, volatile components and the calorific value. In ultimate analysis, the elemental composition of hydrogen, carbon, sulphur, nitrogen and oxygen is determined.
